Byford, who found himself in the middle of this squabble, was amazed by the fractiousness and the lack of transparency, or even basic information, at the top of the M.T.A. He suggested that a decision about the station enhancements be tabled for further study, and so it was.

Station wagons: most either love them or straight out can’t stand them. They used to work perfectly for big families or a large group travelling together. Today it’s the SUVs and the minivans which do that. So sure, the creme-de-la-creme of the car world still brings out a model or two – BMW, Volvo, Mercedes, and even Audi doe have a few long-roofs among them. But the distinctiveness of those classic Plymouths and Fords have been lost in the world that now wants crossovers, compacts, SUVs and of course, pickups. Even minivans are more or less on their way out and sedan sales are at an all-time low in the domestic market as well.
